THE GROWTH:
FROM A COMMUNITY CENTER TO A POST-DISASTER SUPPORT COMPLEX

lstanbul is the city with the highest earthquake risk in Turkey due to its population density. There are approximately 3.000 people per square kilometer in lstanbul. According to current disaster management plans and decisions; primarily stadiums and sport complexes are assigned to be used as temporary accommodation centers in case of emergencies. Atatürk Olympic Stadium located in lstanbul/Basaksehir is the biggest stadium in Turkey in terms of its size and public capacity. Therefore, it will be an important strategical center during disasters due to its size and location. Ultimately, stadium will need additional buildings and functions for hosting too many people that are affected by earthquake. Proposed project will assist the stadium with designed spaces for nourishment, psycho-social health, children core ond several supportive functions. in absence of any disaster management actions, proposed project will serve Güvercintepe, Altınsehir ond Ziya Gökalp neighborhoods as community center.
